Festival of Trees Raises $21K

2020 Festival of Trees Raises 21K

Newport, WA – The Grinch proved to be no match for this year’s modified Festival of Trees event. The annual event raised $21,000 for community and hospital programs, including funds earmarked for the new 3D mammography unit at Newport Community Hospital. In lieu of the traditional one day festive celebration, the NHHS Foundation board found a way to spread holiday cheer with a “Grinch that Stole 2020” themed virtual event. The idea was to have one “Epic All-Around Town” tree to raffle, but in the spirit of stealing 2020 back from the Grinch, nine more businesses and groups wanted to host one of their own.

These 10 amazing trees boasting a collective $19,000 in prizes and gift certificates were spread throughout Newport, Priest River and Cusick;  they could be viewed, and tickets ordered by phone or mail for the two weeks leading up to the drawing.  Ticket sales were incredible, causing the drawing to be postponed for a day so nobody missed out.

The 2020 raffle tree winners were: Kim Nutter (“Kalispel Christmas”- Sponsored by Kalispel Tribe of Indians and Kalispel Casino); Karen Cunningham (“Seeing Your Way through Winter” – Sponsored by Newport Vision Source); Brandi Frye (“The Great Newport Baking Show” – Sponsored by the Newport Hospital and Health Services Dietary Team); Marianne Nichols (“Candyland Christmas” – Sponsored by Super One Foods); Chris Carr (“For the Love of Red” – Sponsored by Just Because Fashion & Gifts); Melody Potter (“A Very ‘Mooey‘ Christmas” – Sponsored by The Eclectic Heifers); Nancy Horan (“Cabin Fever” – Sponsored by Priest River Businesses);  Daralyn Hollenbeck (“Home is Where the Heart Is” – Sponsored by Pend Oreille Title and Escrow); Alice Mitchell (“A Night on the Town” – Kalispel Tribe of Indians and Kalispel Casino); Dorothy Nutter (“Epic All-Around Town” – Sponsored by area businesses).

Event sponsors included Albeni Falls Building Supply, Mountain West Bank, Amerigroup, Newport Alarm, Exbabylon, ELTC Law Group, Super One Foods, Newport Dental, Donna Bushee, and Country Lane, Inc. The NHHS Foundation’s next event is the 2021 Iron Sommelier & Brewmaster Event on February 20 at the Priest River Event Center (tickets available January 5th).
