3D Mammography

What is different about the 3D MAMMOMAT technology?

Mammomat Revelation is actually the next generation of 3D mammography because it features a wide-angle, high-definition technology that captures more detail. This helps uncover abnomalities that might otherwise be hidden by breast tissue.

We chose the Siemens Healthineer’s MAMMOMAT Revelation mammography system because it makes comfort personal. Every woman is different so the MAMMOMAT Revelation automatically compresses only as long as your breast is soft and pliable. This means you get exactly the right amount of compression for your breast type without losing any accuracy. The system’s soft-edges and shape fits your breast’s curves so comfort is there right from the start.

Comfort is just the beginning when you have a MAMMOMAT Revelation exam. Your doctor is also getting high-quality 3D images thanks to the system’s unique wide-angle technology. This makes it easier to find small cancers with greater accuracy. It also means fewer false positives and callbacks for re-examination (because unnecessary exams are a pain too!).

When should I start?

The providers and staff at Newport Hospital and Health Services care about your health and want to help you decide your best option. Mammography and regular examinations by your physician ensure the earliest possible detection of breast cancer. Early detection allows a wider range of treatment options and is a key factor for a cure.

Screening mammograms are recommended every 1 to 2 years. With the wide range of current recommendations, it is often best to develop a personalized breast cancer screening plan with your primary care provider. Self-referral is also accepted; however, we encourage patients to speak with their provider prior to making an appointment for mammography.

Your personalized breast cancer screening plan will take into account your age, family history and previous mammography screening results. This proactive, informed approach will allow you to make informed decisions and review your options.

Who does it?
We have 3 highly skilled mammographers, all certified by The American Registry of Radiologic Technoligists in Mammography. All three are committed to their patients, for both comfort and accurate diagnosis.

Mammography Preparation
On the day of your mammogram you should not wear any deodorant on your underarms or, perfume or lotion on your torso because these can interfere with the quality of your images. And remember it’s a great idea to schedule your exam when your breasts are the least likely to be tender.
