In some cases, an image-enhancing contrast agent called Definity may be used to obtain sharper, more detailed images, particularly when routine ultrasound pictures are limited. Definity improves visualization of the heart chambers and wall motion, helping your provider make the most accurate diagnosis. If needed, an IV line will be placed so the contrast can be safely administered during the exam. It is well tolerated, and your technologist will walk you through each step before it begins.
