Whitworth honors NHHS therapist
Newport’s Kat Campbell received The Exemplary Clinical Educator Award this May for her work with the doctorate program in Occupational Therapy at Whitworth University.
Campbell helps Whitworth students gain hands-on experience outside the classroom. She also serves on the program’s advisory board. Through the program, doctoral students assist her in her role as an occupational therapist for both Newport Hospital and Health Services and the Newport School District.
The award was given based upon a nomination from students, who appreciate Campbell’s personalized approach to helping them maximize their clinical education experience.
“I was shocked and excited,” Campbell said. “In a small, rural community, we don’t get recognized very often. It was such an honor and really means a lot to me.”
Campbell attended Newport schools growing up. She received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University and her master’s in occupational therapy from University of Mary. She has worked at NHHS for six years.
“Kat is an incredible therapist and a natural teacher. This honor reflects one of the many ways she serves our community,” said Tina Batsch, NHHS director of ancillary services. “Thanks to Kat and team members like her, we continue to grow our regional reputation for exceptional quality care.”
